Marsala, Salvador ALBANY Salvador Joseph Marsala passed away peacefully on November 12, 2012. He was 89 years old. He was the son of the late Josephine La Rosa Marsala and Guido Marsala. Sal was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and received an associate degree in chemistry from St. Lawrence University. He worked at Sterling Winthop Research Institute for 40 years and retired as a group manager. His number one priority was always his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Grace Caimano Marsala. He is the proud father of Judith Smolowitz (Ira) of Massachusetts, Guy Marsala of California, Janet Cassidy (Michael) of Delmar and Jo-Ann Marsala of Cleveland, N.Y. He was predeceased by an infant son, Thomas. His grandchildren include Peter (Michelle), Tara (Scott), David, Meghan, Colin, Kevin, Alexander, Matthew, Anna Grace and Tessa. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and several other loving family members. Sal was a veteran of the D Day invasion at Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and several other significant battles in the World War II European campaign. He was awarded two purple hearts, a bronze star and numerous other citations. He loved summers in Lake George and winters in Fort Myers. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting and was an avid fan of the Yankees and the New York Giants. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mary Rapazzo and the staff at St. Peter's Hospital for their skilled and compassionate care. Funeral services Friday, November 16, 2012 at 8:15 a.m. from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead Street, Albany N.Y. 12203 (Formerly St. Margaret Mary's Church) at 9:00 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday, November 15, 2012 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment, St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
