Dufek, Frederick Joseph EAST ISLIP Fred Dufek, 89, formerly of East Islip, N.Y. died November 17, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at VA Hospital in Canan-daigua, N.Y. He was born, raised, and lived in E Islip until 2003. A proud veteran of World War II, Lt. Dufek flew B29's in the Pacific. An avid fisherman, Fred was founder and lifetime member of the E Islip Anglers; he enjoyed being on the bay with family and friends. As a 65 year member of the E. Islip Fire Dept., Fred was treasurer, secretary and commissioner at times. Fred's business, Independent Distributors in NYC, made him a lover of people; he made friends easily and was loved by many. Fred enjoyed gardening, woodwork, beachcombing, and hunting. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marion McDowell; daughter, Lynda Smith (Ed); sons, Frederick Jr. (Robin) and Robert (Debbie); 10 grandchildren and 24 great- grandchildren. Memorial service 3 p.m. Sunday, December 2 at Gospel Community Church, Coxsackie, N.Y. to remember Fred's life.
