Galka, Esther Jean COLONIE Esther Jean Galka entered into eternal life Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the age of 62 with her family at her bedside. Born in Albany, she was a resident of Colonie all her life and a 1968 graduate of Colonie Central High School. She was the daughter of the late James and Jean Watson Herbst. Esther Jean was the former owner of Imperial Hair Salon. After raising four children, she decided to go back to work for places such as the City of Albany Fire Department, Colonie Manor, and South Colonie School till becoming ill in 1995. Esther Jean was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Albany Elks Lodge 49. She was also a former member of the Eastern Star. Known to many of her dear friends and family as "Edith" or "E.J.", she will be remembered for the unconditional love and support she provided to everyone, and as a woman who fought and battled her way through illness the past 17 years of her life. Esther Jean was the beloved wife of 32 years of Dennis E. Galka; cherished mother of Amy Jean Galka (Justin Gershon), Edward M. Galka, Lee D. Galka and the late Jane V. Galka; adored grandmother of and light of her life, Michael R. Carlin III; sister-in-law of Josephine Galka; dear adopted mom of Sarah Kuhn Garelick; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. E.J. enjoyed spending time with her family, but most of all enjoyed the time she got to spend with 'her baby Michael.' Whether it was playing hockey in the kitchen, monster trucks, or with his army men she cherished each of those moments. E.J. enjoyed baking, listening to Anne Murray, and the crafts of ceramics.
