Kupferman, Susan L. ALBANY Susan Kupferman died on June 26, 2013, after a long illness. She was 54 years old. Susan was a dedicated public servant who served with great distinction in a number of positions with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the City of New York, and New York State. Susan served most recently as senior advisor to the chairman of the MTA. She also served the MTA as chief operating officer, deputy executive director for Policy, Planning and Capital Programs, president of MTA Bridges and Tunnels, and as a member of the MTA board. Susan served the city of New York as the director of the Mayor's Office of Operations. Prior to entering city government, Susan served as co-director of the Rudin Center for Transportation at New York University. Susan's career with New York state included a number of positions in both the executive and legislative branches of state government. Susan served as director of the Department of Strategic Planning and External Affairs, and as the director of the Canal Recreationway Commission, at the New York State Thruway Authority, after serving as assistant secretary to the Governor for Transportation. She also held positions with the State Senate and the Department of Transportation. Susan was very devoted to her family -- as a wife, daughter, sister and aunt. Susan was one of five children. She took particular delight in all her many nieces and nephews. Susan was born on September 17, 1958, in New York City. She is survived by her husband, Bernie McGarry of Albany; her father, Arnold Kupferman of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; her brother, Michael Kupferman and his wife Gloria of Clifton Park; her sister, Amy Cox of Halfmoon; her sister, Andrea Kupferman-Hall and her husband David of Brentwood, Tenn.; and her brother, Richard Kupferman and his wife Joann of Rock City Falls, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Susan will be held on Sunday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at Congregation Beth Emeth at 100 Academy Road in Albany. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Susan's name to: the Central Park Conservancy; the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, Mass.; or the Estherville Animal Shelter in Greenfield Center, N.Y.
