McGahay, Susan M. ALBANY Susan M. McGahay, 61, of Albany passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Philadelphia Cancer Center, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with gallbladder cancer. Born in Albany on August 12, 1952, she was the daughter of Joan Claxton McGahay and the late William McGahay. She was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Our Lady Help of Christians grade school and then from Cardinal McCloskey High School. Susan was employed with the Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany for 38 years, until her retirement in 2008. Susan loved animals and was an avid reader. She was fascinated by American history and Egyptology; she loved the Rolling Stones, Italy, Broadway plays, and anything Manhattan-based. Susan is survived by her mother, Joan Claxton McGahay; her brother, Michael McGahay of Albany; her sisters, Nancy M. McGahay of Albany, Deborah A. Gibson of Glens Falls; half-sisters, Joyce Dunbar of Bangor, Maine and Janice Russell of Simsbury, Conn.; by her three nephews, Christopher, Steven, and John Gibson; and by her best friend, Karen Hoffman of Albany. She is predeceased by her father, William McGahay, and her half-brother, William McGahay Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Albany. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Tebbutt & Frederick Memorial Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany.
