Swiatek, Sophie ALBANY Sophie Swiatek, 92, of Albany entered peacefully into eternal rest into the arms of our Lord on November 16, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Poland in 1921, she and her husband and three children emigrated from Belgium to the Albany area in 1953, to begin a new and better life in the United States. Sophie and her husband became proud U.S. citizens several years later. She worked for SUNY for 14 years, retiring in 1988. A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of St. Casmir's Church in Albany for 50 years until its closure in 2003. Since then, she attended All Saints Catholic Church in Albany. Mom was hard working, generous, outgoing and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She was very sociable and made friends with everyone she met. Everyone will miss her so very much. She loved singing, making homemade pickles, tending to her numerous flower gardens, which were admired by her family, friends and neighbors, as well as by many passers-by who frequently complimented her on her beautiful flowers. In addition to her parents, Michael and Rosalie, she is predeceased by her husband, Stanley; an infant daughter, Helen Theresa; five brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her children, Wanda Rowinski, Theresa (Rick) Denno, Stanley Swiatek, Rosalie "Rose" (Ron) Peterson and John Swiatek; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who lovingly called her "Babcia." She is also survived by her best friend, Alice Salisbury. Funeral services, Friday, November 22, 2013 at 8:15 a.m. from the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home, 208 N.
