Sapienza, Antonino ALBANY Antonino Sapienza, 59, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his wife, children, family, and close friends. Born in Roccella Jonica, Calabria, Italy he was the son of the late Salvatore and Rosetta Fichera Sapienza. He was the husband of Josephine Amore; father of Salvatore and Serena Sapienza; son-in-law of Angelo and Liliana Amore; brother-in-law of Robert Amore (Rosella); brother of Rosario Sapienza of Italy; survived by several nieces, nephews and countless loved ones. Nino moved to Albany in 1987, and opened Pizzeria Sapienza in 1990 in the former Knickerbocker Arena as the first tenant with his partner Fortunato Corraro. He became sole owner in 2000 and successfully continues to operate 'The Legendary Taste.' Nino was a member of the Sons of Italy and the Loyal Order of Moose. He was a devoted father, and treasured the simple times spent with his children. Nino had two passions in life; one was for flying, and the other for soccer. He became an accomplished pilot with many certificates to his credit, and was a lifetime fan of Juventus FC. Relatives and friends are invited and may respectfully call Friday, January 10, 2014 4 to 8 p.m. at the Parish of Mater Christi, Albany. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Parish of Mater Christi, Albany where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
