Joseph Normile Obituary

Normile, Joseph B. COHOES Joseph B. Normile, 92, of Congress St., Cohoes, died peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy on Thursday, July 23, 2015. Born in South Troy, he was the son of the late James F. and Mary A. Canfield Normile and beloved husband of Barbara A. Drescher Normile of Cohoes. Joe was educated in the Corinth Schools and was employed with Mohawk Paper in Cohoes for many years. He was a proud World War II Army veteran and was decorated in honor with the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Joe was a true outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed the excitement of horse racing and the companionship of his fellow handicappers. Joe was a member of the Cohoes-Waterford Elks, Lodge 1317, American Legion Mohawk Post 1450, Halfmoon, VFW, Post 729, Watervliet, the Lansingburgh Veterans and the Combat Infantry Association. He was a communicant of the former St. Joseph's Church in Cohoes and most recently a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford. In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by his daughter, Debra (Mark) Guerin of Tennessee; stepdaughters, Helen (Alan) Danielson of Ithaca and Tammy (Floyd) Plath of Petersburg, Va.; six grandchildren; siblings, James (Therese) Normile, Mary Alice Mullaney, Kathryn McMahon, William (Jane) Normile, Richard (Anne) Normile, Rita Swiderski and Thomas (Corliss) Normile and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughters, Noreen Normile and JoAnn Nichols. Funeral from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ltd., 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes, Monday morning at 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial from St. Mary of the Assumption Church at 9:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Waterford. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Those wishing to remember Joe in a special way may make contributions in his memory to St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Restoration Fund, 119 Broad St., Waterford, NY 12188. fitzgeraldfuneral homeltd.com

My cincere condolences go out to Barbara and family. Joe had a special heart that nobody could resist, always there with a lending hand with a broad smile across his face . Last August 4th 2014 I lost my wife and his Daughter JoAnn , that really hurt everyone that knew her including Joe. Now when you get to heaven on Monday give her the biggest hug you can but most of all let her know that I love her and miss her and always will till we get together once again. Thank you
