Ann Genier Obituary

Genier, Ann D. MINEVILLE, N.Y. Ann D. Genier, 79, of Mineville passed away into eternal life on Thursday, May 24, 2007. She was born in Port Henry, N.Y. on March 30, 1928 to the late Julius and Anna (Halaburda) Dragoon. Ann was pre-deceased by her husband, James F. Genier of Mineville. Ann graduated from Mineville High School in 1945. She received a bachelor of science degree in medical technology from the University of Vermont in 1949 and completed graduate courses in education from Middlebury College and SUNY Plattsburgh. Ann was a special education teacher for 22 years at Moriah Central School. Prior to her teaching career, she worked at John's Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, Md. as a medical technologist. Ann was a devoted member of the catholic church. She was a lay minister, served as a eucharistic minister, and was an ursaline associate. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Moriah Central School Retired Teachers, and the NYS Retired Teachers Association. Ann was an avid reader, loved traveling, gardening and completing the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle. Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She wanted to thank all who sent her cards, thoughts and prayers. Ann is survived by her six children, Leslie Cunningham and husband James of Hong Kong, James J. Genier of Crown Point, Patrick Genier and wife Carol of Port Henry, Susan DePaolis of Petersburg, Maryann Sweeney of Troy, and Lisa Genier of Schenectady; her ten grandchildren, Kelly Tursky and husband Joseph of Mineville, Jesse Genier and wife Michelle of Mich., Patrick J. Genier of Troy, Emma and Abigail Cunningham of Hong Kong, Anthony, Lindsey and Gregory DePaolis of Petersburg, and Jared and Matthew Sweeney of Troy; her four great-grandchildren, Joseph and Madeleine Tursky of Mineville, Jessalynn and Thomas (TJ) of Mich.; her sister Joan Dragoon Webster and husband Dan of Moriah; and a very special friend of the family, Valerie Freemantle of Schenectady. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Church of All Saints in Mineville and a burial that will follow in St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery in Moriah. Also, please join us in a celebration of Ann's life that will be held at the Parish Center at St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry immediately following the burial. There will be no calling hours at Ann's request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ann's name to the Mineville-Witherbee Fire Department, 112 Raymond Wright Ave., Mineville, NY 12956.

To the family of Mrs. Genier,
You are all in our thoughts and prayers. I had the privilege of meeting your mom several times and she will be a woman I will never forget. She had a spirit and enthusiasm about her that was just remarkable. We lost a wonderful person. Our deepest sympathy is with you.
