Romano, George J. RAVENA George J. Romano, 83, died Friday, November 30, 2007 in his home in Ravena. George was born in Ravena on January 19, 1924 and was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Romano. Mr. Romano served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was a 1941 graduate of Coeymans High School. In 1985 George retired from Contrail Railroad after 44 years of employment. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Known by his grandkids and many others as "Pa", he was an avid sports fan who loved his Green Bay Packers. "Pa" enjoyed being a blessing to the lives of others. His greatest passion in life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, coach and friend. One of his favorite past times was going to high school sporting events. You would often find him watching one of his grandkids at a baseball, football, basketball or bowling match at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School. George is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Maria R. (Riozzi) Romano of Ravena; son, Joseph John; daughter-in-law, Linda Peacock of Saratoga Springs; brother John of Ga.; sisters, Angeline of Athens and Annie of Catskill; grandsons, Jason, Christopher and Damian; and great-grandkids, Samuel, Hannah, Olivia, Caleb, Sarah, Sienna and Abigail. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his twin brother Carman; brothers, Anthony and Salvatore; and sisters Mary, Fannie and Nancy. Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Wednesday, December 5 at St. Patrick's Church, Ravena. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Coeymans. Friends may call at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. At 7 p.m. all are invited to join the family in a celebration of George's life.
