MCLAUGHLIN John James Joseph McLaughlin III's colorful life came to an end on April 3rd, 2013, surrounded by loved ones and his faithful dog, Biscuit. John was 67 years young when he passed, survived by his devoted wife, Louise McLaughlin, his dearly loved children Terri Lynn McLaughlin, John J McLaughlin IV, and Sage Michael McLaughlin; his dearly loved step-children Shanna Murray Michals, Shelley Murray Hartman, and Shea Murray Spice; his loving siblings Myrnanell Mincer, Linda Drury (predeceased), William Myron Wilson, and Mary Theresa Rousseau. He also is survived by seventeen grandchildren. John was born prematurely on July 30th, 1945 in Jacksonville Beach. He was so tiny, he slept in a shoebox for weeks, indicating the type of interesting life he would lead. He grew up in Mandarin, Florida and after graduating from Bishop Kenny High School, he began looking for adventures traveling the world as a merchant marine. He spent the next few years of his life in the U.S. Navy moving between Florida, California, Virginia, and South Carolina and studying at both the University of Florida and the University of South Carolina. He spent many years in South Carolina and he eventually moved back 'home' to Florida creating a new life for himself where he taught and counseled children and families in crisis. His return home also was a return to the faith of his youth, with a renewed spirituality and a focus on imparting love and faith to his family. John was a notorious prankster and this is what many of us who loved him will remember most. He was also a dynamic father, a great confidant and mentor, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A Requiem Mass for John will be held on Tuesday, April 9th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com

John was a classmate from St. Joseph's Academy and I loved him because he always made me laugh and he was a good friend. His father would drive a group of us from Mandarin (when it was considered the back woods)to Bishop Kenny every morning. His father was also a very kind and humorous man. My Mom and his Mom were friends and I have always had a soft spot in my heart for John. God bless his family.

To John's big family and especially Louise, I have been trying to reconnect with John for 4 decades,as he , Ray Leanardy and me were best friend through grade school at St Joseph's and then Bishop Kenny. Ray preceded John and now I feel like a lost soul and my past has been wiped clean, except for the memories. Our mom's were good friends as well. I have have 9 brothers and sisters spread out from Texas, California and Florida and they have all tried to find John's brother and sisters. So I am devesated by John passing before we could connect. My prayers and sympathies go out in the most sensative way I can express. I am sure he was loved by all just as he was loved by all of us that knew him. I do wish to meet you sometime and especially JJ IV. I will be coming to Jax for the Bishop Kenny class '63 50th reunion on the first wek of May. You may contact me at Rmorgan @ fau.edu or 954 214 5671. Love and God Bless

As chairman of BK Class of '63, we offer our best wishes. Not a good way to find one of our "lost" classmates, I remember him well as a fellow classmate.

I am so sorry to hear about John's passing. I am praying for you and your family Louise. Reading John's letters were a gift and encouragement. His love and gratefulness meant so much to me. I wish we could have met here on Earth but until we are together we walk with the King. Love, Marrietta, family, and Claude too
