HEANEY Mary McPherson Heaney, 86, passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2013 in Jacksonville, Florida after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. She was born April 23, 1927 in Seattle, Washington to Andrew and Josephine (Lovely) McPherson. Mary attended the Forest Ridge Convent of the Sacred Heart for high school and majored in Far Eastern Studies at the University of Washington, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated with honors in 1947. Mary and her husband, George Francis Heaney III, were introduced by their mothers in 1944 when George was home on leave from the U.S. Army. They were married on September 6, 1947 at St. Joseph's Church in Seattle, where they lived for many years before moving briefly to Philadelphia, then settling in Jacksonville in 1960. Mary and George celebrated their 66th anniversary this year. Beloved wife and mother, Mary was devoted to her family, her vocation as homemaker, and her faith. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mandarin for 37 years. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Celia Marie Wolf, brother, James McPherson, and sister, Judith M. Kelly. She is survived by her husband, George, children George F. Heaney IV, Mary Jocelyn Heaney, Joseph (Shelley) Heaney, son-in-law Martin J. Wolf, Jr., grandchildren Erin and Andrew Heaney, and sister and brother-in-law Susanna and Dr. James J. Lane of Seattle, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Historic Church, 4214 Loretto Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32223 at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Divine Mercy House or the Mandarin Food Bank.
