JOYCE ENTZMINGER Obituary

ENTZMINGER Mrs. Joyce Padgett Entzminger, age 88, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away on Saturday evening, February 16, 2013 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville. Born in Somerset, KY, she was the youngest of two children and only daughter born to the late Vola Reid and Lyda Colyer Padgett. She grew up in Somerset and on a blind date, in 1945, she met a young U.S. Army Air Corps Pilot, Percy Rice Entzminger. After a short courtship, they were married in 1946. Shortly after their marriage, the newlyweds moved to Gainesville, FL, where her husband returned to the University of Florida to complete his degree in Forestry. While living in Gainesville, Mrs. Entzminger worked at the University of Florida as Secretary to Dean Walter J. Matherly. After her husband s graduation, he accepted employment with Container Corporation of America, and the young couple moved to Fernandina in 1948. Not long after settling into their new home, they were blessed with two daughters, Jean and Connie. Mr. Entzminger remained with CCA until 1983, when he retired from his position as the Manager of the Timber Division; and Mrs. Entzminger raised their daughters, serving as home room mother and actively supporting each girl s various endeavors. Nicknamed Peaches by her childhood friends, she was known for her bright smile and joyful laugh. An accomplished pianist, Mrs. Entzminger also enjoyed golfing, fishing, flower gardening, and playing bridge with friends. For many years she sang alto in the church choir. She and her husband loved to dance and were among the original members of the Terpsichorean Club. They were longtime members of the Memorial United Methodist Church. Mrs. Entzminger spent the last 2 years living in the Retreat at Osprey Village where she had many friends and enjoyed the numerous activities provided. The family is extremely grateful for their care and compassion. Mrs. Entzminger is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Mr. Percy R. Entzminger, who passed away in 1997. She leaves behind, their daughters, Jean Tauber (James), New Smyrna Beach, FL, Connie Dignum (Dale), Fernandina Beach, FL, her brother, Glenn Padgett (Blanche), Lexington, KY, two grand daughters, Leanne Finnie (Mike), Fernandina Beach, FL, Shelley Dignum, Indian Shores, FL and several nieces and nephews. I was deeply saddened by the loss of Ms. Joyce (as I called her). In the short time I knew her, she brought so much joy to my life. She always told me to do what made me happy. If I could say one thing to her it would be "Thank you". I chose the nursing profession because I wanted to make a difference in people's lives.....little did I know how much of a difference those I took care of would make in mine. To Ms. Jean, Ms. Connie & the rest of the family I send my deepest sympathy. Rest in peace Ms. Joyce. You will truly be missed!!
