DAVIS James McKinley Davis, Jr., 87, passed away on Saturday January 4, 2014 after a brief illness. Mr. Davis was born November 12, 1926 in Richmond, Virginia to James McKinley Davis, Sr. and Mabel Mills Davis. He was Naval Cadet and WW II veteran having served in the U. S. Navy. He loved everything about flying and had his pilot s license up until age 80. He also had constructed experimental aircraft. Mr. Davis enjoyed fishing and playing golf with his friends at Hidden Hills Country Club. He was a member of St. Matthew s Lutheran Church where he belonged to the Men s Fellowship Group. Survivors include his loving wife of 23 years, Gayle S. Davis; daughters, Bonnie Porter (Jack), Terry L. Davis and Leah Wilson; sons Austin C. Shortridge (Tina) and Louis Trey E. Shortridge, III; 5 grandchildren, Ashley Lowe (Dave), Lacey Tyson (Jimmy), Kaliegh Shortridge, Terry Shortridge and Dalton Shortridge. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday January 8, at St. Matthew s Lutheran Church, 6801 Merrill Rd, with burial to follow at 2:30 pm in Jacksonville National Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the St. Matthew s Church sound system fund, 6801 Merrill Rd., Jacksonville, Fl. 32277. So sorry for the lost to all the family of Mr. Davis. I still get a good chuckle of sitting on your lap, begging you to let Terry go to Fort Lauderdale for Easter break when we were seniors in high school. What great memories I have thanks to you.
