ALDERMAN Gladys L. Alderman, 91, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014. She was born November 11, 1923 in Hazlehurst, Georgia to the late Raymond Dewitt and Annie Underwood Powell. Gladys was a longtime resident of Jacksonville and an active member of Dinsmore Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lindley M. Alderman; her brothers and sisters, Leroy Powell, Horace Powell, Nora Lewis, Loren Powell and Ruth Lee. Survivors include her niece, Johnna Dale Dunn; nephew, John E. Lee; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, loving family and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 31, at Dinsmore Baptist Church, 10500 Old Kings Road, with Pastor Winson Butler officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer s Association, 378 CenterPointe Circle, Suite 1280, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701 ( www.alz.org/cnfl ). Allen, Nana Clare  
ALLEN Nana Clare Allen passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 21, 2014. She was born October 7, 1930 in Pageland, South Carolina. She will be remembered for being dedicated to raising her five children and caring for others as a convalescent aide for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Clyde Allen, Jr., and her first born son, Stephen Craig Allen. She is survived by her children, daughters Rebecca Sue Allen. Weston; and Gina Beth Allen Kevern, Stow, Ohio; and sons Ken Allen (Sally), Tampa; and Kevin Allen (Sharon). She loved being Granny to her grandchildren, Stephanie Lynn Allen Bellows (Jimmy), Paige Taylor Allen Hays (Joshua), Gabriella Clare Devia-Allen, Logan Devia, Ryan Donald Kevern and Scott Allen Kevern. ARNOLD Mrs. Mary M. Arnold of Jacksonville, FL died on December16, 2014. She is survived by her daughter Agnes Love and her husband William of Buffalo, NY; her son Raymond J. Wall of Jacksonville, FL; her son Robert E. Wall and his wife Silvana of Jacksonville, FL; her brother Dr. Jean George Haar and his wife Jean of Buffalo, NY; her brother- in- law William Burden of Athens, GA; her former husband Robert B. Wall of Jacksonville, FL; her grandsons Justin Sobczak and his wife Christy and great-grandson Ronan of Christiansburg, VA; Matthew Sobczak of Staunton, VA; Colin Sobczak of Buffalo, NY; Kevin Wall of Boston, MA; Diego Wall of Jacksonville, FL and many special nieces and nephews. Mary was proceeded in death by her husband Roger P. Arnold, her children John B. Wall and Frances M. Wall; her parents Emile and Agnes Conklin Haar, her sister Cecelia Burden and her many loving cousins. Mary was born in Buffalo, NY on August 6, 1928. She graduated from Neumann Catholic High School, Williamsville, NY in 1946. Mary received her Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from D Youville College, Buffalo, NY in 1950 and a Masters in Education from Canisius College, Buffalo, NY in 1960. She continued her education at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, FL receiving a Masters of Science in Health in 1980. Mary spent most of her career as a high school educator at Bishop Neumann High School (1966-1977), teaching business and commerce where she was a Chairperson for the Business Department. She was also a moderator and President for the National Honor Society for New York State District #14. Mary took special joy as the Coordinator of the Work Experience Program that helped students obtain training and work experience with local businesses. She retired from teaching in 1977 and moved from Buffalo, NY to Jacksonville, FL. Upon receiving her second masters, Mary began her second career as a counselor and then as a supervisor for Gateway Community Services in Jacksonville, FL serving the needs of those with alcohol and drug addictions. As a proud recovering alcoholic, she recently celebrated 47 years of sobriety and used her sobriety over the years to always be available to help others in crisis. Her last several years were spent at Cypress Village Senior Community where she was involved with many hobbies including quilting, the camera club and scrap-booking as well as serving as the editor of the monthly magazine and on several resident committees. During this time Mary also provided continuing care for her late husband of 29 years, Roger Arnold as his health declined until his death in 2005. Her greatest joy was with her grandchildren who loved her dearly. Mary s warmth and joy will be terribly missed by her family and friends who will be comforted knowing that her love and the lessons she bestowed on us will remain forever. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens Beaches Chapel (904)249-2374 located 1701 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00am at the funeral home with inurnment to follow immediately after at H. Warren Smith Cemetery. ANTHONY Funeral Services for Evangelist Virginia L. Anthony, 88, Evangelist /retired cook, will be held, Sat., Dec. 27, 2014, at 11AM, at the Shiloh Tabernacle of Praise ( W. 24th St.). Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. The viewing for Evang. Anthony will be on Friday 5-7 PM at the Joseph Lee center (5120 Perry St.). Armstead, Annie M.  
ARMSTEAD Mrs. Annie M. Armstead passed away peacefully December 19, 2014 in Clayton, North Carolina. A native of Quincy, Florida, she attended the local public schools of Gadsden County, graduating from Stevens High School. She was located to Jacksonville where she was employed as a Seamstress as well as being a part-time Sewing Instructor at Florida Junior College. Mrs. Armstead was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Rev. Dr. Marvin C. Zanders, II, Pastor, where she served faithfully on the Pulpit Aide Board and as an active member of the Sunday School. Other affiliations include a member of the Live Long and Like It Club. She was predeceased by husband, Dennis Henry Armstead, Sr., and grandson, Dennis Henry Armstead, III. Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Gail Armstead Hankins (Orlando, Sr.); son, Dennis Henry Armstead, Jr. (Sandra); a number of grandsons, sister, nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, other relatives and friends. A Homegoing Service celebrating her life will be held 10AM, SATURDAY, December 27, 2014 at her church. Mrs. Armstead will rest in the Master's Touch Ministry, 4510 Soutel Dr. for visitation FRIDAY from 5PM ntil 8PM (where the family will receive friends at 6:30 PM) and at church SATURDAY from 9AM until the hour of service. Adams Sr., Charles Pulliam  
ADAMS Dr. Charles Pulliam Adams, Sr. passed away at his home on December 14, 2014 following a prolonged illness. Dr. Adams was born on February 2, 1924 in Hart County, Georgia. He was the youngest son of eight children of the late Wesley A. and Stella Pulliam Adams of Royston. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Decora Adams, Jewell Adams, Austelle Adams Nichols, and Frances Adams Floyd, and two older brothers: John B. Adams, Sr. and Frazier Adams. He is survived by one sister, Mary Alice Adams Hamner, and husband, William Hamner, Ph.D.of Norcross. Dr. Adams was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Knowles Adams, MD and is survived by three children and families: Son - Charles P. Adams, Jr. MD and wife, Susan Corse Adams, grandchildren: Kelsey and Ben of Jacksonville, FL; Daughter - Cheryl Adams Kanes and husband, Panos Kanes, of Decatur, GA and granddaughters: Jessie Kanes of Tallahassee, FL and Lindsey Kanes of Nashville, TN; Son - Arthur Franklin Adams, MD and wife, Jenny Sievert Adams and grandchildren: Matthew Adams and Samuel Adams of Knoxville, TN; and several nieces and nephews. Big Red as he was affectionately known, will be missed by many beloved and special friends. Dr. Adams graduated with honors from Royston High School in 1941. He attended Emory at Oxford and Emory University. While at Emory, he enjoyed singing in the glee club. He served in the US Navy in WWII. He attended the US Navy's Advanced Radar School at M.I.T. then served as Lieutenant on USS DD 883 Picket Destroyer in the Western Pacific until the end of the War. Upon returning to Atlanta, he taught physics for four years at Emory University. He then attended Emory Medical School and was trained in general surgery. He graduated in 1954 and he practiced surgery for many years in the Atlanta area. Dr. Adams was very active in the Emory alumni groups and a participant for many years in civic and community activities. He enjoyed camping with his family, as well as gardening, fishing, bird-watching, and cycling. He completed over 20 trips across the state on the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia. Funeral arrangements are being made at A.S. Turner & Sons in Decatur. Visitation will be from 10-11:30 am on Saturday, December 20. The family will have a private graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston, GA, officiated by family friend, R. Matthew Martin, on Saturday, December 20 at 2:30 pm.
