Arthur Frederick Peterson(1945 - 2014)

PETERSON Arthur Frederick Peterson, Lt., USNR passed away on March 21, 2014. He was born in 1945 in Mt. Vernon, NY to Arthur F. and Veronica P. Peterson and grew up in Pennsylvania and New York. He earned his bachelor's degree at Georgetown University and later received an M.A. in history from Indiana University. He was commissioned in the U.S. Navy in 1969, deploying twice to the Mediterranean aboard the USS Columbus (CG-12). After his second deployment, he married Frances Perez-Esteve and went on to teach history at the U.S. Naval Academy, where his two children were born. After leaving the Navy, he earned his PhD at Johns Hopkins University. In 1980 he moved to Jacksonville, beginning a 30 year teaching career at Episcopal High School. In addition to his teaching duties, he was Chair of the History Department and Crew Program Director, and retired in 2010. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur F. Peterson, his brother, Anthony W. Peterson and his uncle, Edward A. Phoenix. He is survived by his mother, Veronica P. Peterson, his wife, Frances Peterson, his children, Frederick Peterson (Jennifer Lumia) and Cristina Skeels (Warren), grandchildren Clancy and Elisa Skeels, his brother, Michael Peterson, three sisters, Frances Allen (Richard), Lois Mariano, and Martha Meier (Mark) and numerous nieces and nephews.
