SPROUSE Charles Emerson Sprouse, age 85, born and raised in Parkersburg WV, weighed anchor from these earthly shores, Wednesday, December 19th, 2012 in Atlantic Beach, Fl. Charlie, as he was known to his friends, was a 22 year veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the Cuban Missile Crisis. After retiring from the USN, he served another 20 years as a Fire Fighter with NAS both in the structure division and then with the aviation division. Charlie received a career Service Award, issued by the Secretary of the Navy in 1986 for 40+ years of service to the USN and to other Government agencies. Charlie was a lifelong avid fisherman and loved being out on the water. He was well known for his love of bowling, being a champion many times over, and has bowled from the time he was about 10 years old in WV until he resigned recently at age 85. He played a mean game of pool and enjoyed a friendly game of poker or cribbage with friends. Charlie was a member of the Fleet Reserve Assn #290 as well as the American Legion. He was also a long time member of the Jacksonville Offshore Fishing Club and participated for many years in the annual King Fish Tournament with his friends. His loving survivors to grieve his passing and celebrate his life are his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many friends.
