DANIEL ELVINGTON

ELVINGTON Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com Daniel Adrian Elvington Jr. 90, of Jacksonville, passed Sunday July 21st at the Clyde Lassen Veterans Home in St. Augustine. He was born to the late Daniel Elvington Senior and Ruth Cordelia Bie, in Wilmington, N.C., June 5, 1923. The family moved to Miami in 1930 and he lived here with his sisters, June and Nancy, until he joined the U.S. Army in 1943. He spent his Army years in Europe with an anti-aircraft battalion in England, France, Belgium and Germany. After the war he moved to Jacksonville where he met and married Ruth Cowart Elvington in 1949. He lived and raised his family in Jacksonville, working at Western Electric until retirement in 1984. An avid amateur film photographer Dan captured and preserved the family history of births, camping vacations, and Christmas holidays to provide the family a visual legacy. Dan is survived by his sense of humor in grand-daughter Hannah; his love of the outdoors by his grand-daughter Sarah; his spirit of joy and adventure by his daughter Adrianne; and his love of family by his son Glenn. He is also survived by many others who love and care deeply for his gentle spirit. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Cowart Elvington, his son, David Wayne Elvington, and his sisters, June and Nancy. He was a man of such easy-going, welcoming and warm spirit that it was impossible for even a complete stranger not to like him. He could walk down a street making friends as he went. New-comers welcomed into his life understood just how rare this was. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Community Hospice. A Memorial gathering will be held at Craig Funeral Home in St. Augustine, FL. 4pm- 6pm Saturday, July, 27th, 2013.
