I just found this obituary for Fr. Dan Shashy, the very honorable priest who solemnized my husband and I wedding at the Resurrection Catholic Church here in Jacksonville, FLorida in 1999. He's a hero and noble man in the eyes of God and all the people in America!
Our heartfelt condolences to the Shashy family. May Fr. Dan rest in peace and live forever together with his beloved wife in heaven.
God bless!

Monica & Paul, I just heard of your father’s passing this past weekend and wanted to offer my sincere condolences. Growing up down the street from you, I remember your dad as such a nice and friendly man. I still vividly remember the winter wonderland that he created by running the sprinklers on the vacant lot behind your house during a freeze. All us neighborhood kids enjoyed it for quite a lot of days, which is why he did it. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of your family.

My Dad and "Father Dan" were friends at Lee and UF. Busy with jobs and families, they would visit at mass at CK. He came to visit my Dad every day whenever he was in the hospital these past few years and was so thoughtful and generous with his time during other family member illnesses. What a wonderful, kind and gentle man who loved his dear wife, family and friends. We will miss his smile.

You are in my thoughts and prayers during this sad time. Be consoled that your father is seeing God face to face along with your mother and the saints and angels in heaven. If only we all could give ourselves completely to the Will of our Heavenly Father and offer Him such a good life. Your friend

Fr. Dan my friend and jokester. I will always love how you taught me to cook, took me to healing Masses, & invited me to sit down to lunch with you. I'll never forget our conversation about death and now you know. I feel blessed that I got to be a part of your life. You raised a wonderful family and leave a memorable legacy of love and laughter for all of us to remember. I just couldn't say good bye when I heard it was near the end. But you know I love you. Enjoy peace in heaven...

Our condolences to the entire Shashy family, but especially to Paul, Carol and family. After leaving Resurrection Parish and moving to St. Augustine, we would occasionally run into Fr.Dan. One evening, celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary at the Papillion Restaurant in St. Augustine, we encountered Fr. Dan, and upon learning of our celebration, he proceeded to give us a nuptial blessing in front of everyone dining. May our paths cross again in heaven! We Love You! Jean and Edith Girouard

He had a great influence on me while he served as a priest at Resurrection, and even to this day I can recall his God inspired homilies. Fr. Dan, rest in peace, and may God give you all the graces you richly deserve.

Uncle Dan was such a wonderful man. I have known him all of my life and he is now up in heaven with my mom and dad who loved him so much. He married me, buried my mom and did so many loving things for so many, many people. I am glad he is not suffering anymore and that he is at peace. It is sad for us, his family, as he will be terribly missed but I know he has gone to a beautiful place to be with the Lord. God bless him and you, Monica, Paul, Veronica and Andrew. You were all blessed with a wonderful father and know that you will see him again.
Love,
Susan Shashy Corrado

Our Father in heaven welcomes home a fine man, friend, and religious leader.
It was a lifetime honor for us to have attended his Ordination and to call him "Father".
We count ourselves among the many of his family and friends who feel that the world is a lesser place without Father Dan. Heaven is brighter with his presence. We'll all meet again someday.

Our deepest sympathy to Fr. Shashy's family and our prayers that God will hold you close in His grace at this difficult time. Please know that Fr. Shashy did make a difference in the lives of others through his ministry. He conducted a 50th marriage vow renewal for my parents when they were both ill; he cared for them and us with dignity and sincerity and allowed all of us a special opportunity. In addition, he taught me to always pray for those who have no one to pray for them.....I will continue to do that in his honor. Blessings to all!
