Derick Alan Best(1974 - 2013)

BEST Derick Alan Best passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on October 7, 1974. He is the son of Robert L. Best and Cheryl D. Smith. Derick attended Middleburg High School and was well known and liked by many. After graduating high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served a short time in the Gulf War. Derick was a very kind hearted and honest man and lived by a code like no other. He loved his family and friends which he had many. He lived a full life even after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2009 and was on the heart transplant list at Shands Gainesville that of which never came. He is dearly loved and survived by his wife, Chrystina (Kris); daughter, Alexis (Lexi); step-son, Tyler; mother-in-law, Mechele Ralph; brother, Bob (Pam); sister, Cherie (Bill) Rogers; parents, Bob and Cheryl; grandmother, Mrs. Elmer Smith, and many other loving family members and friends. Memorial services for Derick Best will be held 2PM Friday December 6, 2013 in the chapel at JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, 111 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, FL. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a reception for food and refreshments immediately following the services at the family home. The family would like to express their gratitude to his many friends who kept in touch with phone calls, visits and cards during his illness and the ER staff of Orange Park Medical Center for making his last hours on Earth comfortable and pain free.
