Earl C. Backmon

BACKMON FUNERAL SERVICES for Mr. Earl Clayton Backmon, 82, will be held at 10 AM , Saturday, October 5, 2002 in Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, Rev. Granville Reed, Pastor, officiating. His affiliations include WWII Veteran, Eastside Brotherhood Club - Former Treasurer, Stanton High- Class of 1939, Johnson Travel Club and Usher Board #1 of the church for over 50 years. Mr. Backmon of 1724 Garden Street died September 30, 2002 in a local hospital. An Orangeburg, SC. native, he was employed by Maxwell House Coffee until he retired in 1985 after 35 years of dedicated service. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly Backmon and son, Maurice E. Backmon. Survivors include his devoted wife, Mrs. Elease W. Backmon; son, Ronald C. Backmon; daughter, Ms. Cheryl Dunham; grandchildren, Derrick White (Erika), Ronald Earl Backmon and Brandon Backmon; great- grand daughter, Ms. Jazmin White; brother-in-law, David Earl; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Leatrice Paris (Rev. Curtis W. Paris) and Mrs. Willie Lee Fryer; daughter-in-law, Ms.Bonnie Y. Backmon; goddaughters, Mrs. Jacqueline Coleman ( Ray) and Mrs. Thersa Sumpter (Kenneth); a number of nieces including two devoted nieces, Ms. Janice Hice and Ms. Doretha Tompkins; nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including his devoted neighbors Ms. Ruby Armstead, Ms. Sally Zimmerman and Ms. Iristine Miller. Mr. Backmon will rest in the mortuary for visitation Friday (TONITE) from 5 PM until 8 PM( where the family will receive friends at 5 PM) and Saturday at the church from 9 AM until the hour of service. Entombment will be in the Garden Cloister Mausoleum of Evergreen Cemetery. The cortege will assemble at the residence under the direction of ALPHONSO WEST MORTUARY, INC. 4409 Soutel Dr. (766-9671).
