EDWIN BROWN

BROWN Edwin Collier Brown, Jr., 87, died October 11, 2013 in his home in Lake Park, GA. Born on January 7, 1926, he was a life-long resident of Jacksonville, FL until he and his wife moved to Lake Park in 2006. He served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Force during WWII, stationed in Guam. He received his Bachelor s and Master s degrees from the University of Florida where he was a three year letterman with the baseball team. Edwin was an educator who served in the Duval County School System 30 years. He was principal of several elementary schools in Jacksonville. He was a member of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education, life member of PTA, Retired Duval County Administrators Association, Duval County and Florida Retired Educators Association. Ed was a member of the Jacksonville Racing Pigeons Club, the Jacksonville Camellia Society, American Hemerocallis Society, and the North Florida and Valdosta Daylilly Societies. He was a member of St. Peter s Episcopal Church, Jacksonville and Twin Lakes Presbyterian in Lake Park, GA. Ed was proud of his successes raising and racing homing pigeons, growing trophy camellias, and hybridizing many award-winning daylilies. Both he and his wife, Janice, have daylillies named for them which have won the Stout Medal, highest honor in the American Hemerocallis Society. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Janice; daughter, Janice B. Schert; and son, Edwin Collier Brown, III; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Service of Burial will be held at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd, in Orange Park, FL on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the chapel.
