SLEFFEL Frederick (Fred) Edward Sleffel Jr., was born in Columbus, Ohio on August 14, 1934 to the late Frederick Edward Sleffel Sr. and Francis English, went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 27, 2013. After graduating high school, Fred served in the United States Navy, National Guard, and participated in the Korean War. Shortly after, Fred married the love of his life Mildred (Kay) Muchmore Sleffel. From that marriage came five beautiful children, Freddy, Michelle, Traci, Chad and Scotty. Fred and Kay moved from Ohio to Jacksonville, Florida where Fred attended Jones College and received an Associate of Science Degree in Business. After graduating, Fred opened his own business Sleffel Food Brokers. He received many prestigious awards for sales and service including a family vacation package to Walt Disney World before it was opened to the public. Fred's passions in life include his wife, children, dancing, singing, bowling, golf, camping, and sports (especially Ohio State Buckeyes). As a result of his passion for sports, Fred was hired by FCCJ and Jacksonville University Basketball where he served as announcer for over 15 years. Fred also assisted at the Beach Boulevard Flea Market as an announcer. In addition to announcing at the Flea Market, Fred enjoyed another one of his passions; singing karaoke with many of his family and friends. During retirement, Fred and Kay, family, and friends spent many nights dancing and singing karaoke as members of the Moose and VFW Lodges. Fred was a true fighter who survived many near death experiences to be able to spend more time with his loving wife and family. After many years of struggling with his illnesses, Fred went to his final home with his Heavenly Father and passed loved ones. Fred is survived by his beloved and steadfast wife of 55 years, Mildred (Kay) Muchmore Sleffel, his children Frederick (Freddy) Edward Sleffel (Laurie), Michelle Kay Lyons (Kenny), Tracine (Traci) Sue Barry, Mikel Chad Sleffel and Steven Scott Sleffel, his grandchildren Danielle Henderson, Samantha Wright, Candace Lautzenheiser and Rodney McCrickard, his great grandchildren, Kaylee, Daniel and Deacon Henderson, and Kinsley Lautzenheiser, brother Pat Sleffel (Joyce). Fred was proceeded in death by his brother's Jack Arthur and Paul (Lanny) Irwin. Services for Fred will be held at 2:00p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Jaxchapel, 711 St. Johns Bluff Road. Friends will be received from 6:00-8:00p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Jaxchapel. In lieu of flowers, Kay has requested memorials be sent to Jaxchapel, PO Box 351535 Jacksonville, Florida 32235.
