Irvin Culmon Schneider(1921 - 2014)

SCHNEIDER Dr. Irvin Culmon Schneider, 93, of Jacksonville/Atlanta passed away on April 17, 2014. Dr. Schneider was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on March 19, 1921, and grew up in Chipley, Florida. He was the eldest of two children born to the late Bessie and Morris Schneider. Irvin graduated from Tulane University in June 1942 and received his Doctor of Medicine from Tulane in 1944. He married Lois Jean Evans from Corsicana, Texas on June 17th, 1944. Irvin completed his residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He was a veteran and served in the Navy as a Lieutenant. Irvin was an icon in the Jacksonville medical community. Throughout his well respected medical career, Irvin was elected by the Board of Regents a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (1960), and elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (1966). He served as Secretary for the Medical and Dental Staff for Baptist Medical Center (1968), and as Vice Chairman, Department of Medicine, at Baptist Medical Center (1974). He also served as 27th President of the Medical Staff at Baptist Medical Center (1982). After he retired, he volunteered at Mission House Clinic in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. He was beloved by his patients and his peers alike and served as a mentor to many in today s Jacksonville medical community. His friends and patients adored him and his bedside manner was renowned. Long after he gave up his medical practice, his opinion was sought after by so many. He enjoyed playing golf and attending and watching University of Florida football games. Irvin loved music and traveling and was a wonderful friend. He enjoyed many good times and laughs with his buddies. Irvin was a devoted and loving husband and a father who cherished and adored his children and family. Irvin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lois Evans Schneider and his children: Linda Halpern of Atlanta, Georgia, Ken and Susan Schneider of Altamonte Springs, Florida, and Robert and Elisa Schneider of Orlando, Florida. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Lori Kantor, Jonathan and Alexandra Kantor, Blair Schneider and Troy Schneider and one great grandchild, Rebecca Kantor. In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Mary Michelson, Helen and her husband Larry Jaben, and several nieces and nephews. Lois and Irvin were members of Congregation Ahavath Chesed in Jacksonville since 1951. The graveside service will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. Donations can be made to the Heart Institute at Baptist Hospital in honor of Irvin C. Schneider, MD.
