James "Arnold" Adams

ADAMS James "Arnold" Adams, 82, passed away May 3, 2010. A life long resident of Jacksonville, he is predeceased by his adopted parents Emmett C. Adams and Blondian (Arnold) Adams, and his wife of 46 years, Betty (Giddens) Adams. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and David Gray and 1 granddaughter, Hannah Lee Gray. Arnold graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and then entered the Navy where he served briefly during WWII. He then attended Florida State University where he gained both an undergraduate and a master's degree. He was in the first class of men to attend Florida State and served as the first Chief Justice of the Honor Court. He taught school for 37 years, beginning his teaching career in Berrian County, GA. He then returned to Jacksonville where he taught at Ribault Senior High, Ft. Caroline Junior High and Sandalwood Jr. and Sr. High, retiring in 1991. He was an active member of Hendricks Ave. Baptist Church, the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Florida State Athletic Boosters. He and his wife Betty loved traveling, volunteering and attending FSU football games. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 9, 2010 from 4 - 6 pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL. A celebration of his life will be at 11 am on Monday, May 10 at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, 4001 Hendricks Ave. with an additional viewing beginning at 10 am.
