James Willis Griffin

GRIFFIN James Willis Griffin (Fruit man) passed away peacefully at home Feb. 24, 2014 at the age of 81. He was born to Arthur and Rosa M. Griffin in Jacksonville, Fl. He was a veteran of the Korean War and graduated as a Taylor from Stanton Vocational. He was self employed and also employed with US. Gypsum form many years. He was a former member of St. Mark Baptist Church and a member of the Men and Women Club, Inc. Jax. He was preceded by his parents, 1 sister and 3 brothers. He leaves to mourn his passing a devoted, loving wife of 57 years, Rosa L. Marshall Griffin; 6 children, Faye D. Joyner, James W. Griffin, Jr., Ruby Lee Jordan (Freeman), Major Griffin, Laura Ann English-Williams (Dr. Lamar), Andrea Belcher (Donald); sister, Clara Lee Young, Berdell Clayton, sister-in-law. Devoted caregiver and niece Rosalind Whetsel. A host of grand children, great grand children, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00am at St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church, 5863 Moncrief Rd. Rev. Ernie L. Murray, Sr. Pastor officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday in the chapel from 5-7pm and in the church Friday from 9:00am until the hour of service. Interment will be in the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 12:30pm.
