JIMMY OSSI

OSSI Jimmy B. Ossi, age 79, passed away after a lengthy illness Wednesday, January 23, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Jimmy was born October 15, 1933 to Aziz and Hayat Ossi and was lifelong resident of Jacksonville. He graduated from Landon Senior High School, earned an Associate of Arts from Jacksonville Junior College (JU), and attended the University of Florida. Jimmy proudly served in the United States Army from March 1956 until March 1958. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margo Lawrence and was pleased to have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year, surrounded by family. He has been the proud father of Lawrence Patrick Ossi (Sandra), Kenneth Andrew Ossi (Heather), James Christopher Ossi (Sonja) and three grandchildren, Nicholas James, Rachel Lynn, and Ava Margaret. Jimmy is also survived by his five siblings, John (Sue), Josie, George (Jackie), Jeannette (Charlie), Julia (Fareed) and many nieces and nephews. Early in his career he managed the family grocery business, until he and Margo acquired Lord s Gift Shop in 1967. Together they built one of Jacksonville s finest gift and jewelry shops serving Jacksonville customers for more than 40 years. Before retiring in 2004, the business expanded to two locations including the original Avondale location and Mandarin Landing. As a man who loved his work and socializing with his customers, Jimmy quickly found semi-retirement suited him and opened Lord s of Jacksonville Gift Center in the Avonlea Antique Mall where he worked until his illness would no longer allow. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree) and has been an active parishioner at San Jose Catholic Church and Assumption Catholic Church. Services will be held at Assumption Catholic Church, 2403 Atlantic Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida including a Rosary Monday, January 28th at 7:00 pm (the family will begin receiving friends at 6:00 pm) and followed by a Mass of Christian burial Tuesday, January 29th at 11:00 am officiated by Father Fred Parke and Father Selwan Taponi. Pallbearers include Thomas Ossi, Raymond Ossi, Michael Ossi, Robert Ossi, Richard Ossi, and Nicholas Ossi. Honorary pallbearers include John Ossi, George Ossi, Charlie Curry, Fareed Ossi, Edward Ossi, and Charles Nofal.
