John N. Terry

TERRY John N. Terry 85, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, December 22, 2013. John was born in Birmingham, Alabama where he was an outstanding football player for West End High School. His success there allowed him to play for the 1946 University of Georgia SEC championship team. He graduated from Troy State College and went on to fulfill his military obligation with the U.S. Air Force. John married his high school love, Jane Costner in 1950. Following his military experience, John went on to become a successful businessman. He was selected as Salesman of the Year with Butler Manufacturing Company and ultimately purchased his own businesses, M & W Welding and Radiant Oil Co. which brought John and his family to Jacksonville. John left a legacy of hard work, integrity in business, love for his family and a deep faith in Jesus Christ. He valued each friendship and lived life to the fullest. John was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, most recently at Tiger Island in Woodbine, Georgia, fishing and boating in the Bahamas and flying his plane. He loved the Georgia Bulldogs and was a season ticket holder for the Jacksonville Jaguars. John spent his last twelve years in Woodbine, Georgia with his wife Ruth Proctor Terry. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jane Costner Terry. John leaves three children, Kathy Terry Walker (Jim), J. Gordon Terry (Kari), and Alan D. Terry (Robyn), 7 grandchildren and 7 Great- grandchildren. The Celebration Service for John will be Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 11:00, King of Peace, Kingsland, Georgia. The family invites all attendees to fellowship with the family following the service in the narthex of the church. Memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice-McGraw Center-Mayo Hospital.
