WITHERSPOON Funeral service for Lawrence Witherspoon, who transitioned on November 29, 2013 will be held Friday, December 6, 2013 at 11AM in First Baptist Church of Oakland, Rev. Torin T. Dailey, Pastor. Lawrence was a graduate of New Stanton Sr. High and attended EWC where he was a member of the choir. He was a former Fire Fighter with the City of Jacksonville and served in the US Army, receiving his honorable discharge. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Marjorie Witherspoon; sister, Candice Witherspoon Spears and brother, Don Witherspoon. He leaves to mourn, children, Larn and Shanice Cunningham; 5 grandchildren; sisters, Delores Williams, Ann and Edith Witherspoon; brother, Thomas Witherspoon; significant other, Lillie Primus; family matriarch, Helen Johnson, numerous cousins and several friends; many of whom he was closely affiliated via the Mary Singleton Center. Lawrence will rest in the John A. McKinney Memorial Chapel of the funeral home for the visitation of friend (Today) from 5-8pm and in the church on Friday from 9:30am until the hour of service.
