LOUISE WOOD

WOOD Louise L. Wood passed away on July 2, 2013. Louise was born in Enid, OK, and the family moved early in her life to Bradford, PA. She is survived by her beloved husband, Quentin E. Wood, Woody to Louise. She had been predeceased by her parents, Martin J. and Atha Lowe, and a brother, Martin J. Lowe, Jr. After finishing high school, Louise graduated with a Liberal Arts degree from the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), where she was a member of the Penn State women's varsity swimming team. Louise worked for approximately 15 years as a legal secretary for the head legal counsel of the Forest Oil Company, Bradford, PA. She also was a physical education instructor for four years in the junior high school in Bradford. She excelled in both positions. Louise loved life, and participated in it fully with activities in golf, skiing, tennis, needle pointing, avid reading, swimming, and traveling throughout most of her life, but her best and most loving activity was making friends, all of whom she held close in her heart. She had an amazing ability to listen intently to people as they share their life experiences with her. She even listened intently to Quentin when he asked her to marry him on April 19, 1957, 56 years ago. Louise had an excellent and enjoyable sense of humor, which endeared her to her many friends, as well as her new acquaintances. She loved sending birthday, anniversary, get well, and humor cards to her friends and family... (You name it she sent it!). She was always a fun person to be with and she will be missed by her innumerable friends in Bradford, PA, Oil City, PA, State College, PA, and in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and most especially by her husband. Louise and Woody lived 20 years in Bradford, PA, and 21 years in Oil City, PA while Woody was employed with Quaker State Oil Corporation, from which he retired in 1988 as CEO. Louise was the perfect partner for Woody in representing Quaker State in the full range of corporate activities required of a Fortune 500 company. Louise and Quentin divided their retirement life between State College, PA (late summer and early football Season), and Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (remainder of the year). A loyal Penn State graduate, Louise was an avid and active supporter of her alma mater. She thoroughly enjoyed their many years in State College and at Penn State through her and Quentin's 35 year relationship with Penn State's Board of Trustees, where Woody served as Chairman of the Board for the normal three -year term. As with Quaker State, Louise always represented Penn State in an exemplary manner. She and her husband have been Penn State season football ticket holders for the past 55 years and attended almost all of Penn State's games during those years. At Louise's request, there will be no Memorial Service and interment will be private. Donations may be made in her memory to the Birds Emergency Aid and Kare Sanctuary (Beaks), 12084 Houston Avenue, Big Talbot Island, FL 32226. Please visit our online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com.
