HARPER Mary Ethel (Stauffer) Harper, 95, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Claude Harper, Jr. Mary was born August 6, 1917, in Ft. Wayne, IN, to Charles Edward and Ethel (Barris) Stauffer. She grew up in Ft. Wayne, and then attended Purdue University where she majored in Home-Economics. She met her future husband, Claude, in Ft. Wayne. After residing in Park Forest, IL and Warsaw, IN, Mary and Claude moved to Jacksonville, FL to be near their son and family. She was active in women's organizations and other leadership roles in the United Presbyterian Church. Mary was currently a member of Hodges Blvd. Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing Bridge in women's and couples' groups. She was an expert homemaker, mother, seamstress and knitter. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary is survived by her children: Judith Planchon of Eugene, OR, Charles Harper (Alice) of Neptune Beach, Claudia Hjemvick (Douglas) of Wexford, PA, and William Harper (Christine) of Naples, FL; her grandchildren: Melissa Clapp (Matthew), Gregory Harper (Whitney), Elizabeth Salzberg (Saul), Jacob Hjemvick (Becky), Joshua Hjemvick (Kimberly), and Mary Hjemvick; and her great-grandchildren: Ethan and Eleanor Salzberg, Zane and Evelyn Harper, Emily Clapp, Adam and Abigail Hjemvick. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 4140 Hodges Blvd, Jacksonville, on Wednesday, November 7th at 11:00 A.M.
