MONICA Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com Philip Alan Monica, age 57, made his final deployment from Morris Hospice Center, Jacksonville, Florida, to Heaven on Friday, January 4, 2013 after a three year battle with A.L.S. Born April 2, 1955 in Syracuse, NY, his family moved to Tampa, Florida. Upon completing high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1972. He completed tours of duty in Vietnam, Japan, Desert Storm, Italy, Cuba, Miami, Virginia Beach and NAS Jacksonville. Philip settled in Jacksonville after his retirement in November 1993 to raise his family. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Vera Reeby Monica; three children Shawn, Brandi and Nancy; four grandchildren, Lexia, Michael, Dorian and Jonathan; nephew Sean Gleason; cousin Vickie; and Sotherden family members in Syracuse, NY. A celebration of Philip's life will be held 6pm, Wednesday, January 9th at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Memorial contributions are welcome and should be mailed to the ALS Association FL Chapter, 3242 Parkside Center Circle, Tampa, Florida 33619-0907.
