ROBERT DE ARMAS

DE ARMAS Robert De Armas Sr. Passed away to be with the Lord March 5th at Hospice. He was born April 24, 1928 in Tampa, Florida. As a young child his family moved to New York where he spent his youth. He was involved in many sports and also joined the CB s (aka ROTC today) in school. Robert decided to make the United States Navy his career and joined in 1946 and retired in 1966. He served on many Air Craft Carriers which allowed him to see many parts of the world. Robert always brought back many gifts from foreign countries for his family to enjoy. His expertise as an air Craft Mechanic included combat damage repair, engine rebuild, throttle control for the flaps on wings, fuel tanks, routine maintenance and many other areas on planes. He loved life to the fullest. He enjoyed many sports and outdoor activities. Robert was a strong support of family. He enjoyed many backyard cookouts and Holiday dinners that always included relatives and friends. Even though he spent up to 6 months at sea on each of his many deployments serving his country, he was able to find time with his 2 boys in sports they were involved with, but mostly boating and fishing. After he retired from the Navy he worked as a civilian for Bacardi Rum, NADEP, Winn Dixie & Wal-Mart until he was 76 years young. In his final retirement he enjoyed working in the yard, shopping, watching sports, fishing and spending time with family and friends. One brother Charles De Armas predeceased him in 2010. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marvine De Armas, 2 sons, Robert De Armas (Wife Debbie) & Jimmy De Armas (Wife Laura), Grandchildren includes Charles De Armas, (Navy Chief), Christopher De Armas, Scott Shimp, Brandon De Armas, One Great Grandchild, Verona De Armas & one sister Dora Menendez. Robert was a good husband and father that will truly be missed. His love, sense of humor and caring will never be forgotten by his family and friends. The Viewing will be Sunday from 2 to 4 at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL. Services will be held on Monday March 11th, 2:00pm at the funeral home.
