SANCHEZ Simeon P. Sanchez, 85, a retired Navy Master Chief Mess Management Specialist, died March 25, 2013 in Virginia Beach, VA Mr. Sanchez was born in Maycawayan Bulakan, Philippines. He served 30 years in the U.S. Navy at duty stations around the world. After retiring from the Navy, Mr. Sanchez worked over 10 years for the Government as a Public Servant. Before moving to Virginia, he was instrumental in the founding and growth of the Bayanihan Club of Jacksonville, FL, a Filipino service and social organization that grew to be one of the largest providers of support to the Filipino-American community in Jacksonville. Mr. Sanchez was an avid reader; his favorite books were science fiction and fantasy. He was also a gifted gardner. His harvests of fruits and vegetables were bountiful, well known and shared throughout the community. Mr. Sanchez was a generous and selfless man, who was well loved by all. Mr. Sanchez is survived by his wife of 56 years, Natividad; three children: a son, Dominador of Silver Spring, MD; and two daughters, Dorothy D. Ward of Woodbridge, VA and M. Dolly Ciccarelli of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. Viewing, Liturgy of the Word, tributes, and Rosary will be at the Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA, on Friday, April 5, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A funeral mass celebrating the life of Mr. Sanchez will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Saturday, April 6, at 11:00 am.
