WAYNE ELLIS

ELLIS Wayne Morris Ellis, 69, native of Jacksonville, Florida passed away April 24, 2013. He was the son of the late Francis Lynwood Ellis and Mary Elizabeth Mohler Ellis who survives. Wayne graduated from Ribault High School in 1962 and received both his undergraduate and Law degrees from Stetson University. Wayne was admitted to the Florida Bar on November 1, 1969. For the next 43 years Wayne practiced law in Clay, Duval and Nassau counties. Wayne s practice covered all areas of the legal profession but his time as an Assistant State Attorney gave him the highest sense of professional accomplishment. To Wayne, his service in the State Attorney s Office provided him the opportunity to give back to the community he so loved. While with the State Attorney s Office, Wayne served in various capacities including serving as Chief Assistant to then State Attorney Ed Austin; Acting as the Standing Advisor to the Grand Juries for Clay, Duval and Nassau counties; and serving as Chief Prosecutor for the Traffic Homicide Unit. He was married to Pamela Susan Spillers Mikell, his dedicated and loving wife of six years. Wayne was an avid hunter, fisherman, pilot and for a time even raced Formula V cars. He was a member of the Victims Assistance Advisory Council, Safari Club, Ducks Unlimited, Duval Lawman s Association, and a lifetime member of the Jacksonville Gun Club. Wayne also served as the President of the Police Council for many years. In his youth, Wayne was the Florida Junior State Skeet Shooting Champion for 5 consecutive years, demonstrating shooting skills that were passed on from his father, Francis Ellis, who was the National and World Skeet Champion in 1951. Wayne took great pride in being a most accurate marksman, able to even shoot pennies thrown in the air. The simplest things in life gave Wayne his most enjoyment, whether it was just sitting around a campfire telling jokes with family and friends or feeding the many deer and ducks that would show up in his backyard looking for their daily meal. Surviving are his wife Susan, a daughter, Mary Adeline (Kenneth) Lamb, a son, Steven Wainwright Ellis (both from his marriage to Denise Deschenes Ellis), two sisters, Lynn Esposito-Inns (Doug) and Marianne Patterson (John), one grandchild, Finley Elizabeth and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
