I remember George as a generous heart. He was compassionate, understanding the sometimes strange ways of other people. He never blamed. He was a blessing in my life.

It is amazing how time flies when someone you love and care for leaves us. I was enrolled at LCCC between 2003 and 2006 and had George as a professor for Freshman Comp 1. We both bonded the first day of class because I was older than most students and he would make mention of my maturity and how pleasant it was to have someone like myself in his class. George was always impressed with my work and wasn't afraid to say so as he would make everyone feel special. Even though English class was a natural for me, I enjoyed Georges company so much that I enrolled in English Comp 2 just so we could continue our student and teacher bond. I never received less than an "A" on anything that I wrote for George and he even requested that I let him have some of my papers so he could use them in future classes as a reference. 2006 seems so long ago and I have now completed 22 years in the military and will retire 1 November 2016. I went on to earn Bachelors and Associate Degrees and George was a foundation to many papers and dissertations that I created. The world and his family lost a wonderful man too soon and his memory will always be with me as I now approach the age he was at. Life can go by so quick and when you think you will always be able to see that someone special again, they are taken away from you. Brenda, your life with George may have been short but it was truly blessed. I am truly blessed for having him in my life for those three years. Bless your family and know that he lives on in all of you.

Just the other day my 15 year old was working on his summer paper for school and I thought about Mr. G. Wished he could review his paper...hmm.. perhaps he already has. God Bless!

I wrote this poem for George after learning he had died.

MORNING STAR

Drowsing man, morning news…
bombs, rockets, flares, new war
or old and underneath the question—
did we not come for love?

Afternoon. Food in the sink,
drains stuffed, floors
slick and scarred with years.
He'd flood the dirt away
but he's bound to honor
every task as she did:
scrub walls and shutters,
feed plants and fires…
his dreaming mind.

At night they'd walk
the point of that island
shaped like an alligator's snout,
turtles, sego palms, red and purple bottle brush, swamp grass bent to the small birds' skim,
their union a dream where bodies
crawl toward each other,
shedding skin for skin.

The bird with you,
the wings with me…
what can he offer but himself?

Well, it's been alittle over four years since my stepdad has been gone. I was right when I said "the world will be a less funny place"! I have missed his humor, unconditional love ,knowledge and overall confidence he gave to not only me but everyone. I dream of you often George and still pray I see you in Heaven. I could use a good laugh! We love you always, Misty and Logan.....

I went through grade school with George in Live Oak and we graduated together. My dad knew his father. George has family buried in Live Oak next to my dad's grave and each time I visit the grave of my dad, I think of George because of the name Crapps next to the grave of my dad.
I was in Live Oak this past week for a funeral and went to see the grave of my father and thought of George, I was looking through the obituraries and saw the one on George. I can't believe it. Contact me at [email protected] or in the phone directory as Sam Thedieck in Tallahassee, Fla.

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Crapps. I still haven't heard what exactly happened to him and I would like someone to email me at [email protected]

I never had him as an instructor but I would always watch him teach through the classroom window during classes. He would be perched on a desk sharing some story and then the whole class would break out in hilarious laughter. I remember seeing him on campus and regretting that I missed out on his teaching.

He will be missed, many of the student on LCCC are still in shock as such a funny and sweet man could pass away so suddenly.

For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with God's trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first,

Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever. 1 Thess 4 16-17

I want to thank everyone for their kind words about my husband George Crapps. I have answered several emails, but was unable to answer some that I did not have an email address. Some of you know me and some do not. George and I had 22 short wonderful years together. He was an amazing man, full of life and witt. My life with him is unforgettable. Always thinking of others, never judging. He lived each day to its fullest. Big G, will live thru all that knew him. He wouldn't want us to cry, instead laugh and make someone laugh everyday. Special thanks to Paul for setting this guest book up. It has helped me thru these long days. Many thanks to you all and God bless each and everyone of you!(George,my husband and best friend, I'll always love you and will see you again. Love, your wife, Brenda!)

Mr. Crapps was the very first teacher I had at Lake City Community College and by far the best. He helped me learn how to write better essays but most importantly he was a wonderful friend. I will miss you Mr. Crapps

Mr. Crapps probably saved my life as both an author and a person. When I first enterd his classes I dreaded having to endure another english class, but he not only helped me to enjoy language again, he inspired me to start my book and to make the study of language my life. I still recount his humor to my friends and will miss the oportuniny to recomend him as a professor. I will miss him deeply.

Brenda & Family and all the Crapps family: The pain of knowing we will never(on this earth) share George's laughter, see his smiling face or benefit from his natural kindness is only made bearable because God in His infinite Wisdom gave us Memories and they will gradually heal the broken hearts left in the wake of his passing. We love you. Edith & family.

Mr. Crapps was truly the best teacher I had and ever will have. He was a kind and thoughtful man but most of all he was sincere. I would always leave with a smile on my face after leaving his class or just having a 5 minute chat with him. He made every person feel like they were worth something, and always inspired you to do better in your work, and your life. I will never forget the impact he left in my life. There will never be another "Mr.Crapps" His family are in my thoughts and prayers. I can't imagine the pain and hurt of losing an awesome man like he was. Godbless.

There will never be another "Mr. Crapps" to recommend to those students who abhor english. There will be no more students eased through the anguish of writing a paper. His wit, his kindness and his friendship can never be packaged into another person to be like him. He was unique. I am proud to have been a friend and a colleague. I can only pray he knows how much we appreciated him at Florida Community College at Jacksonville, NAS Jacksonville. There will be many hearts with a missing piece because of his passing. We love you.

He was my favorite college professor and had the best sense of humor. He taught in a way that was on our level when he was above the rest. He made English fun and enjoyable, something that I never thought could be possible. He was one of the most compassionate teachers and really cared about us. It is such a great loss, and he will truly be missed. I wish every teacher could teach the way he taught us. I will truly miss “Big G” but he will remain a constant influence in my life. May God bless him.

The news of George’s passing brings deep sorrow. I was blessed with the opportunity to have attended three different classes with Big G as the Teacher. He possessed a unique teaching gift that challenged each of his students to continually strive for excellence while enjoying the learning experience. I trust that George is now present with the Lord. He will certainly be missed.

"Big G" was truly an inspiration to all he taught. I will personally miss his quick wit, enthusiastic attitude and his desire to actually want to be surrounded by his students. English will be just plain perfunctory without him.

George was an outstanding individual and teacher. Professor Crapps is among the elite category of teachers that leave a positive, lifelong, imprint on the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of attending his class. George will be missed and remembered by all; he’s probably looking down now, correcting our postings and smiling at the people and work he loved.
Happy trails Big G…

I am stunned. I can't understand how a man so full of life could pass through our lives so quickly. Until I met George Crapps I was floundering in Government jobs, trying to find something that was worthwhile, where I could leave a legacy. He was my inspiration to begin working towards my Florida Teaching Certification for Middle and High school English, because of him I discovered that my real need was to help our children to excel in school. To you, his wonderful family: He always talked about his mansion in Lake City, filled with the people he loved and who inspired him to try to make a difference in the lives of others. He may have left us, but he will NEVER be forgotton. May your God bless you all and keep you all safe until you meet with George again.

To George's family: I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our friend George. "Big G" (as he liked to be called) was one of Embry Riddle's best teachers and he was an awesome person with a quick smile and great sense of humor. One of the reasons I did not go to college after high school was because I could not bear the thought of suffering through any more boring English classes taught by rigid, dry English teachers like I had in high school. I was prepared for the worst when I signed up for my first English class at ERAU, but by some stroke of good fortune, I got George for a teacher. He was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and he was totally committed to teaching the relevance and importance of the proper use of the English language to all his students. He taught English in a way that made sense, and he made it fun and interesting at the same time. His favorite teaching method was to initiate a vigorous class discussion with some sort of controversial (sometimes outrageous) statement or personal story to provoke our emotions and make us participate and think. Eventually, we would realize that the discussion was leading us in an application of what he was trying to teach us that week. George believed that his students must have emotional attachment to a subject to do their best work, and he was right. I always looked forward to his classes every week and I was disappointed there were only 3 classes for my degree that I could take with him. George was not only a great teacher, he was a kind and dedicated family man who cared about his students, his friends and the world around him. George had an impact on all his students, and he made a difference in the world. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on in our hearts and our writing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Thanks for sharing him with us.

Mr. Crapps was an excellent teacher. He really made an impression in the lives of the students that he taught. His class was so much fun because of him and they way he taught it. He will be missed greatly by the students at LCCC. Well miss you Big G!

George was ONE IN A MILLION!! His thought provoking style of instruction could draw out the most interesting ideas from inside of myself. He brought to light unknown abilities that were within all of us. His perspectives on life were always true to himself. His impact on my life has forever changed how I feel about myself and the world around me. There is a little bit less in the world today because of his absence. He IS truley missed. May the Lord bless his family and friends in this loss of a great man. Thanks for the memories.

Professor Crapps was an inspiration. He inspired me to appreciate life more fully, to a deeper appreciation of literature and to endeavor to write with a "higher level of diction." After twelve years of school and four years of college, I can truly say that "Big G" was the best teacher I ever had. My deepest sympathy and prayers are extended to his family and friends. Of course its sad news when you learn of someone who you know having passed away; but I think Mr. Crapps is the only one of my many teachers in life who would make me cry on hearing the news.

He was not a teacher, he was a proffesor of the best caliber. His own style, his own words, mastery of the material, and a desire to talk to the student. His way of doing things seemed as much subconscious or on the side as it was direct. Sure, he taught English- but he would talk about everything in the world, while still teaching English by using those things as his medium- or example.

He wanted to know what people had to say, correcting them in how they said it- as was his job. He did so much as a teacher, he had the fastest walk I’ve ever seen anyone have. George will be my biggest memory taken from LCCC.

I can't believe hes gone..just the other day he stopped me in the hall and I was complaining to him about one of my professors..He was always quick to listen and never quick to judge..I remember the first time I was in his class, I left with my stomach hurting and tears in my eyes, from laughing so much.. He was truly the best teacher to ever step foot at LCCC..he made you feel like he was listening to you, not because he had to, but because he wanted to..he will truly be missed..To his family I just want you to know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers..

Mr. Crapps was like the jack of all trades. He was the best teacher ever, but he was also a friend to his students. He knew when to be strict but yet, offer his compassion at the same time. He will truly be missed. He was someone you could talk to, personally, I would go to him and fuss about my other professors, and he would tell me to shake it off, and it would be over soon. He was great. It really sucks that God took such a wonderful person! Also, Mr. Crapps' family: My prayers are with you!

As one who knew George through his work, I can say he was a good and decent man, one of the most compassionate I've ever met, or will meet. He has touched many with his spirit; that impression will remain.

Doris Stanley (Avery) & Dr. Edward Bradley

October 3, 2006

All of George's family please accept our deepest sympathy. Doris was George's "reading partner" in 3rd & 4th grade and fondly remembers the "Indian drums" they made together for Mrs. Folsom's Thanksgiving review. We have a cute photograph of Doris & George sitting together with their drums in 4th grade class that year. George has a crew cut & a huge smile. Though she'd seen George only half a dozen times since grade school, he was the same friendly fellow every time, no matter how many years had passed since their last contact. Doris' daughter LaNeal had seen and spoken with him more recently and said he was the same cheerful easy-going guy, and he always asked her about Doris. He was Doris' age, far too young to pass from this world. She will miss him and is so very sad to think of him gone away already. Our hope is that you all will find strength and solace to accept such an untimely loss. Doris S. (Avery) Bradley & Dr. Edward Bradley.
