Stephen Johnston Obituary

JOHNSTON Stephen C. Johnston, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, formerly of Minneapolis, MN and St. Louis, MO passed away January 21, 2015, of complications of esophageal cancer. He graduated Washburn High School in1958; member Delta Tau Delta fraternity at Univ. of MN. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela (Lovell) Johnston; stepson, Travis Edward Haast and wife Ellen; granddaughters Emily and Ammie; brother David W. Johnston of Minneapolis and wife Kathleen (Quinn); nieces Sheila Townsend (husband Michael ) and grandnephews Collin and Henry, and Mollie Johnston (husband Eleftherios Monis) . Steve developed a computer-based inventory control system which he marketed worldwide, with over 6,000 users on 6 continents. He sold the firm in 2008 to American Software of Atlanta, GA. Steve enjoyed golf, and was a benefactor of the Evans Scholarship Foundation; he was a top ranking croquet player in the U.S. and International Chairman of the United States Croquet Association. He was to be inducted into the United States Croquet Hall of Fame in 2015. He was also very talented and skilled in the art of wood turning. His art pieces were made from exotic woods and were considered fine art . Steve loved his work and cared deeply about his employees. He gave numerous opportunities for them to succeed and they never disappointed him. Throughout the years he developed many real friendships, both in croquet and golf. Those of us who really got to know him were blessed. His intellect and wit never ceased to entertain us and that smile shall never be forgotten. A Memorial will be held at Marsh Landing Country Club 25655 Marsh Landing Parkway, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL on Sat. January 31, 2015, at 2 p.m. We will all miss this generous, hilarious, adventurous, genius of a man. Please visit our online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com. We have lost a wonderful man who's work and humor effected many many people. There are many of us who owe a great deal of our success in life to Steve and I am one of those. You are now in GOD's hands

I am sorry to hear about the loss of Steve. I never met Steve but he dated my mother in high school (she too was a Washburn Grad) and he knew met my father in law when he lived in St. Louis. When my mother and my father in law got together they always talked about Steve with smiles and laughter. May he rest in peace.
