Obituary Condolences

ASKEW Mrs. Artiebelle Shipp Askew of 8959 Polk Ave. passed away peacefully February 9, 2007 in a local hospital. She was a native of Williston, FL, having resided in New York City most of her life. She received her early education, at local public schools of Duval County. Furthering her education she attended Grady School of Nursing, where she earned her Nursing degree. Mrs. Askew was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church. She was employed with the Department of Nursing, New York City with 40 years of dedicated service. Other affiliations include a member of the "Live Long and Like It" Senior Citizens Club, and before her illness participated in the Nutrition Program for seniors at the Riverview Community Center. Mrs. Askew was preceded in death by her siblings, Clyde W. Shipp, Sr., Helen Shipp and Gilbert Shipp. Survivors include her nephews, Clyde W. Shipp, Jr., Thomas Shipp, Chesapeake, VA, Lt. Col. Andre' L. Shipp (Norma), Cheyenne, WY; nieces, Patricia Martin and Deborah ShippFields (Robert) with whom she resided for the past 30 years; grand nieces and grand nephews, Jason Byrd (Jackie), Janita Byrd Herring, Christina Martin, Twilla Shipp, Jerrica Byrd Hall, Sabrina Shipp, SaTonya Fields, Thomas Stiller, Winson Shipp; great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews, Derry Hall Jr., Farris Hall, Jason Byrd, Jr. Jason Dixon, Jalyn Byrd, Eyshawn McClain, Jazline Clark, Terry Hall, Cortney Clark and Teriana Hall; a number of other relatives and friends, including her special lifetime friend, Jessie B. Frazier, Enterprise, AL. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM, Saturday, February 17, 2007 in St. Matthew Baptist Church, 2800 Moncrief Rd., Rev. George A. Price, Pastor, officiating. Mrs. Askew will rest in the mortuary for visitation FRIDAY from 5 PM until 8 PM (where the family will receive friends at 5 PM) and in the church Saturday from 9 AM until the hour of service. Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Friends are asked to assemble at the church under the direction of ALPHONSO WEST MORTUARY, INC., 4409 Soutel Dr. 766-9671.
