Bruce J. Towner Obituary
TOWNER Bruce J. Towner, age 92 years, passed away peacefully Monday, January 6, 2014 in Richmond, Virginia. Mr. Towner was born in Tampa, Florida, and was a long time resident of Orange Park, Florida. He was a World War II Navy veteran (1942-1946) and served in the China-Burma-India Theater in Naval Intelligence. His entire business career was with the Seaboard Railroad and its merged successors. He held various positions at St. Petersburg, FL; Norfolk, VA; Miami, FL; New York, NY; Birmingham, AL; Savannah, GA; Richmond, VA, and Jacksonville, FL spanning over 40 years. At the time of his retirement he was Manager of Service, Equipment, and Planning with CSX. Mr. Towner was a member of the Orange Park Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and elder. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, golf and Big Band music, having played clarinet and saxophone. His greatest joy was spending time with family. Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Louise Youmans Towner; a daughter, Pam Holstrom and her husband, Ed of Richmond, VA; two grandchildren, Edward E. Holstrom III (Ted) and his wife, Julie of Williamsburg, VA and Ashley H. Stalker and her husband, Stephen of Richmond, VA; six great grandchildren, Morgan, Campbell and Carson Stalker and Hannah, Grace and Edward Holstrom. Graveside services will be held at Friendship Cemetery, Donalsonville, GA at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 11. Family and friends are asked to gather at 10:15 a.m. at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.
