CHARLES MCKIBBEN Obituary
MCKIBBEN Charles Roy McKibben, Jr., loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, 87, passed away to be with the Lord on May 1, 2013. Charles was born in Sasser, Georgia on April 5, 1926 to the Reverend Charles R. McKibben and Allie Mae McKibben. He grew up in South Georgia and he married his wife of 63 years, Catherine, on June 7, 1949. He graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry and he received his Masters Degree in Chemistry from Emory University. Charles served our country faithfully in the 4th Infantry Division of the Army in WW2. He was awarded an American Theater Service Medal, Two Bronze Service Stars, and a World War Two Victory Medal while serving in the Rhineland and Central European Theater. Charles returned home, got his degrees, and then moved to St. Louis, where he worked for Mallinckrodt. He went to work for Proctor and Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio. Charles and Catherine then moved to Jacksonville, settling in Arlington. He was an expert Quality Control Manager for Glidden for many years and also worked for Gulf South Research Institute in Louisiana and Betz Paper Products in Jacksonville before retiring. In retirement, Charles worked for Johnson and Johnson in Jacksonville. Charles was an active member of St. Paul s United Methodist Church where he was a choir member for many years and taught Sunday school. He will be remembered as a strong values driven family man who had respect for everyone and was a servant of the Lord. Charles is survived by his wife, Catherine; sons Bruce and his partner, Debbie, and Brian and Brian s wife, Margaret; daughter Anne McKibben Waryold and husband Joe; grandchildren William, Chris, and Karen McKibben and Stephen and Kathy Waryold; great granddaughter Gloria McKibben; sister Edyth and her husband Cubbage Snow of Macon, Georgia; brother Malvin and his wife Sally McKibben of North Augusta, South Carolina and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to caregiver Voncille Frederick. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 3 to 5PM at Hardage Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville. Funeral service is on Monday, May 6th at 11AM at St. Paul s United Methodist Church, 8264 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville. Internment will follow at 2:30PM at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville.
