Charles William "Chad" Nussbaum

Charles Nussbaum Obituary

NUSSBAUM Charles “Chad” William Nussbaum, , 57, died peacefully February 8, 2009 at McGraw Center for Caring Hospice, Jacksonville, Florida after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Chad was born in Jacksonville, January 9, 1952, to David Nussbaum, Sr. and Irby Leake Nussbaum, who both predeceased him. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and the University of Florida, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and always faithful to his “fighting gators”. Chad was known for his keen wit, smile and personality and had the ability to make many friends wherever life took him. He was a third generation Jacksonville Native and a notable figure in the local commercial real estate business for more than thirty years. Chad began his professional career working for his family owned real estate company, Nussbaum & Sons, that was founded in 1909, and spent the last 13 years with Phoenix Realty Group. Chad loved the outdoors and liked nothing more than to spend time with friends and family in the Bahamas where he frequently visited, “hunting lobster”. Family members include his young son, Charles Y. “Chaddy” Nussbaum; sister, Rhetta Nussbaum (Chard Hamilton); brother, David Nussbaum, Jr.; Nephews, Hunt McCullers (deceased), Brandon McCullers (Renee), David Nussbaum III (Crissy and Drew), Todd Nussbaum and Brad Nussbaum. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Christ Episcopal Church. Interment will be at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery following a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road Jacksonville, Florida 32257 or the American Cancer Society. I had the great pleasure of knowing Chad through Junior High at Lake Shore and High School at Lee. Universityof Fla as well. Hearing of his passing was a huge jolt. Chad was always the ultimate wit, happy and never said an unkind word about anyone. What a loss! My heart goes out to his family-Chad was one of the good guys!

Chad was the class wit! Always with a fun comment to make life happy. The only time I was sent to the Dean at Lee High School Chad was right there with me ! Mr. Rupp tried to embaress me one day and I told him it was " none of his business ". For Chad, he agreed to boisterously and we spent the next hour with the Dean ( lol ). Thanks Chad!!

To the Nussbaum Family,
As a member of the Lee High Class of "71" I want to express my condolences to the family and friends of Chad. If I remember correctly , Chad dressed as "General Lee" walking the sidelines during football season, leading the cheers much like "Albert & Alberta".
It is never easy to lose a loved one. Just try to focus on the good times.
Go Gators,

While I never knew Chad personally, I knew of him. Like so many other entries I remember his smile and genuine personal interest in everyone he came in contact with. My one and only time speaking with him was at a Lee football game, a few years after graduation. He recognized me and just started chatting like we were old friends. He left saying that if I were ever interested in buying a house to give him a call. It made me want to buy one, then and there. My prayers to his family. GO GENERALS!!

If you say the name Chad Nussbaum and a smile does not appear on your face, you obvioulsy did not know him. As high school classmates, I did not know him as well as I would have liked but you know, it did not matter. Just being around him was a joy. With a quick wit and a keen sense of humor ... it was always entertaining. Chad will be missed but not forgotten. My deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Rheta, David, Chaddy, Brandon and Family
Chad was one of the funniest and upbeat people I have ever known. He could make me laugh with just one of those little facial expressions he could do so well. I offer my deepest and heartfelt sympathy to his wonderful family. He was always great to work with and was generous with his knowledge and experience. In addition to his business success his son should know that his father was both a professional and caring colleague to those of us who have had the privilege to cross his path. His great personality and smile will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I just learned of Chad's passing today from a fraternity brother of ours. I grew up among the Nussbaums at Fishweir, Lakeshore and Lee and then found Chad again while a KA at Florida. I never found Chad without a smile and something positive to say no matter what the situation. Wheat, Barley....Chad.

There are not too many people who could make such a positve impact on people like Chad. Just thinking about him brings a smile to my face. As in his life, the impact of his passing has greatly affected all who had the delight of knowing and spending time with him. May we all appreciate each day we are given with a smile and a remembrance of the joy he brought to our lives. For his family and especially Chaddy, may God give you strength, peace and hope.
