WHITEHEAD
Edward James Whitehead, 81, of Atlantic Beach, Florida passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 31, 2018. He was born in Arlington, Georgia on May 14, 1937. He was the second child of Charlie and Johnnie Bell Whitehead. He grew up in St. Petersburg, FL and enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 18. During his military career he traveled the globe and his last three duty stations were in Bermuda, Australia and Mayport, Florida. He retired after 21 years of dedicated and faithful service as the Chief Petty Officer (CPO) of the Mayport Commissary Store. His second career was with the Keebler Company. He started out delivering cookies throughout the Southeast and retired as the Assistant Distribution Center Manager after 19 years of service. He was widely known as a Keebler Elf as he provided cookies for his family and friends (especially his kids' friends) and each year for his church's Vacation Bible Schools during the summer. His final career was as the Warehouse Manager for Discover Tec and Elite Tec. He retired in 2008.
Ed loved gardening and cheering for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Florida Gators and the Tampa Bay Rays. He and his youngest son were Jacksonville Jaguar season ticketholders and they never missed a game. He was a man of faith and dedicated his retirement years to serving at First Baptist Church of Atlantic Beach, Florida. He was a deacon and served as Chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee.
