Emily A. Helow Obituary
HELOW Emily A. Helow, aged 93, passed away peacefully at home on December 1, 2017. Born September 3, 1924 in Jacksonville, she was predeceased by her husband, Philip, her parents, Namy and Naseema Abood, her brothers, Richard, George, Toofie (TN) and William, and sisters LaVera and Amelia. She is survived by her three children, Pete Helow, Carol Carter (Mike), and Philip Helow, Jr. (Danielle), her sister, Mary Shaia, Cleveland, Ohio, sisters-in-law Alice Abood, Evelyn Leinaar and Margaret Helow, grandchildren, Bryan Carter, Katie Helow, Audrey Helow, Meredith Helow, Ethan Helow and Andrew Helow, and many nieces and nephews. A graduate of St. Paul's High School class of 1942, she volunteered and served in many community organizations including the Sae Benet Club, Assumption Altar Guild and Brentwood Ladies Golf Association. Emily was a devoted mother and grandmother, always putting her family's interests above her own. She was a great cook who never measured anything. It always came out perfect. She learned piano at an early age and passed her love of music along to her children. Her hobbies included playing the organ, sketching with colored pencils, crocheting, writing poetry and doing crossword puzzles. She was always willing to support her family and friends in their time of need with food, comfort and humor. She and her husband, Philip, were founding members of Assumption Catholic Church, where she worshipped until her illness. The family extends their special appreciation to Bessie Bartley, Felicitas de los Santos and Reimundnae Lucero for their loving care and commitment to her as caregivers and friends for many years. The family is also appreciative of the participation of Community Hospice for their care, advice and nurturing during Emily's last days. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 5 from 5-6 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Homes, 4115 Hendricks Avenue. A vigil service will begin at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 6 at 2 p.m. at Assumption Catholic Church. Committal services will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice, Assumption Catholic School or a .
