Iradell R. ABNEY Jr. Obituary
ABNEY Iradell R. Abney, Jr., 68, passed away January 30, 2014. He was born December 27, 1945 in Bronx, NY. Iradell proudly served our country for 33 years in the US Marine Corps, Navy and Army, retiring as a Staff Sergeant having received a Purple Heart while in Vietnam. Ira attended Bronx Community College and was recruited by AT&T. While working, Ira received his Bachelor s degree in science and a Master s degree in math from Monmouth University. He was a math substitute for the Neptune Board of Education and a volunteer EMT for the New Jersey paramedic squad. Ira was a caring, loving and compassionate man who was loved by everyone he met. He was a master gardener, having a beautiful garden in his backyard. Ira is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Alicia Abney; daughter, Charlene Abney; 6 brothers; and many other loving family members. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00p.m., Tues., February 4, 2014 in Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wed., February 5th in St. Johns Catholic Church of Mayport. Interment will follow in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
