JACK ROUSH Obituary
ROUSH Dr. Jack J. Roush, 88, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013. He was born January 19, 1925 in New Brighton, PA to the late Enos Rose Roush and Caroline Smith Roush. After graduating from New Brighton High School in 1942, Jack served 3 years in the US Army in Europe during World War II. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Geneva College in 1949, and went on to the University of Pittsburgh to receive a Master of Education degree in 1953 and a Doctor of Education degree in 1960. Early in his 36 year career as an educator in Pittsburgh, PA, Jack taught mathematics at Sewickley, Beaver Falls, and Leetsdale/Quaker Valley High Schools. He also taught Algebra on public television, WQED-Pittsburgh, and he taught classes at Penn State University New Kensington. He became Principal of Aspinwall High School in 1957 and Fox Chapel High School in 1961. He moved on to serve as Director of Secondary Education and ultimately became Asst. Superintendent of the Fox Chapel Area School District. He served as chairman of over 20 public school evaluations in PA, NJ, MD, and NY. He was a member of Aspinwall United Methodist Church, the Elks and Masonic Lodge, and served as President of Aspinwall Kiwanis Club. He retired in 1983 and moved to Jacksonville Beach, FL in 1995 to be with family. An avid sports fan, Jack loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. In his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, reading and spending time with family and friends. Jack s loving wife of 49 years, Joan Roush, and his brother, William Roush, predeceased him in 1997. He is survived by his daughter, Jackie (Brian) Franco (Atlantic Beach, FL), his grandsons Bradley and Jake Franco (Atlantic Beach, FL), his sister Edna Allen (Moline, IL), two nieces and their families, and his special friend, Alberta Seaton (Atlantic Beach, FL), with whom he shared 13 wonderful years. A service celebrating Jack s life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013, at 2:00pm at Community Presbyterian Church, 150 Sherry Drive, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to Northeast Florida Community Hospice designated for McGraw Center for Caring, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
