JACQUELINE HAMMESFAHR Obituary
HAMMESFAHR Jacqueline C. Conway Hammesfahr, 77, of Atlantic Beach, Florida passed away Tuesday morning, August 21, 2012 following a long illness. Jackie was born October 21, 1934, in Jacksonville, FL. The daughter of Alton J. and Nina B. Conway. When she was a young girl she moved with her family to the beaches. During her lifetime she lived in Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach. She was a graduate of Duncan U. Fletcher High School. She also attended Jacksonville University. In the summer of 1953 she contracted Polio. Following almost two years of rehabilitation at Warm Springs, GA, she returned to the beaches where she lived a full life while raising her two small sons, Troy and James. For a period of time she was a bookkeeper at the Ponte Vedra Inn in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. It was in 1957 that she was selected as the Polio Mother of the Year by the March of Dimes. This was only a small testimony of her drive and spirit. Most of all she was determined to live life to the fullest. She was our hero. In Jackie s own words, I have had a varied and very sort of different life; one of much grief and one filled with much joy. I have two sons I love deeply who bring me much joy. A loving and devoted husband with whom I have shared 21 years. Eight grandchildren I cannot say enough about; and a close and loving sister. Also, many other relatives, too numerous to mention here. I hope I am remembered with a smile and with the knowledge I have lived my life to the fullest and with much gratitude. Remember me with a Random Act of Kindness to someone, somewhere who may badly need a helping hand or a smile. This is what I believe we are on this earth for to care for each other. It has been quite a journey. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Conway. She is survived by Robert W. Hammesfahr, her loving husband of 21 years, sons; Troy Simmerson, Sr. of Asheville, NC and James Simmerson of Jacksonville, FL, sister Betty Lee Proctor of Jacksonville, FL, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service for Jackie will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2012 in Palms Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville Beach. In lieu of flowers Jackie and the family requests that donations be made to Jacksonville Humane Society or Community Hospice of NE Florida. Please visit our online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com.
