SMITH Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com John Edward Smith, Jr., 76, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife of 29 years, surrounded by his family at their home after a courageous and dignified fight with cancer. He is survived by his wife Carole Stewart Smith, his brothers: Gary (Sandy) Smith, David (Shara) Smith, his sons: Richard (TreAnn) Smith, Michael (Melissa) Ivey, Joel Smith, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. John had various careers, as a news photographer at WTHR Channel 13 in Indianapolis, IN, and as a freelance Cinematographer for multiple networks during the 1970s. Arriving in Jacksonville FL in 1985, John founded a commercial landscaping business, Better Lawns and Landscape, which has been in business for over 25 years. John served in the United States Marine Corp and retired from the United States Air Force in 1964. John and Carole are members of Christ's Church of Mandarin, on Greenland Road, Jacksonville Fl where a Memorial Service will be held October 10th, at 2:30 PM The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
