Gibbs Family,

There’s not a day goes by that I don’t think of Mike. Any time an old REM song comes on or I’m listening to an 80’s indie playlist of mine I can’t help but think of him. He was an extremely outgoing kid and very witty too. His sense of humor was one of my favorite things about him. I cant count how many times he brought me to tears while at Lakeside Jr High. I know it’s been a long time but I just wanted Chuck, D and Jason to know that I was thinking of him.

I think about Mike a lot but especially on this day. A lot of time has passed but it still seems like yesterday. I'm pretty sure every time I talk to shore, dan, Visco, Stuart, etc we always mention Mike. Shows how cool a guy and friend he was that he is still "in the mix" after this many years. Miss you Mike

To all those who knew Michael, This man was my favorite person in the whole world. He taught me more about life and love in the short year that we were together than I have learned in the rest of my life put together. I think of him and his wonderful family everyday and they will forever remain in my heart and prayers. Knowing Michael was an honor and loving him was a miracle. It makes me so happy that someone like him is watching over me from Heaven. Sincerely, Alyssa

To Jason & Mr & Mrs Gibbs,

I am honored to know that I was the first person Mike met after moving to Florida. I was one of countless individuals that he blessed with his continued company and sense of humor all over the world. He found light in any situation. He was the greatest teammate anyone could ever hope to be lucky enough to have on their side, as well as to play against. We all looked up to Mike for having the biggest balls of all to transfer to Fletcher during soccer season only to play against us at Orange Park. If it not were for his leading qualities on the soccer field, I don't know that the teams that he played on would have gotten as far as they always did by him playing on them. He was an unwaivering authority on cool, but at the same time never to cool to relate with anyone. His presence will greatly be missed on and off the field. May God comfort your family in this difficult time and always.

My brother and I met Mike in Junior High School and remained friends with him throughout High School. Mike was a genuinely nice guy. He took my brother under his wing since Andy was a year younger than him and became his "big" brother in Junior High School. Even though I had not seen Mike since High School, he touched our lives with his infectious smile. Mike ALWAYS had a smile on his face. It is very sad to know that we will never have another opportunity to see that smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike's family. Your son was a one of a kind and will be missed by many people!!

Dear Kathy,Mike, and Jason:

Mike slipped many golden memories into our family's heart's treasury. We remember when Coley first met "Gibbs" playing soccer. We can still remember Mike running down the field with his arm extended high up in the air after he scored a goal. As, we look back, there were a lot of those. Then, we were so honored when Mike flew up to New Jersey to be a special part of Coley and Gretchen's wedding party. Over the years, Mike would call to ask about "Coleman's" coming home plans and you know, no matter who answered the phone, whether it was Bill, Beau or myself, Mike would always take the time to talk and he would end the phone conversation with something to make you smile or look forward to. Our hearts are full of sadness, but our hearts are also full of the joy of knowing Mike as a wonderful young man and very special friend. Please accept our love, fond memories and deepest sympathy.

My dearest Kathy, Chuck and Jay: My memories of Michael are those of long ago but I can still see his smile and his love of life. I wanted to send this parable to you, one my mother loved, to hopefully help you thru this sad time, to know there is someone else waiting for Michael.

A Parable of Immortality

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads it's white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. It is the object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch until at last it hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, "there he goes".

Gone Where? Gone from your sight, that is all. He is just as large in mast and hull and spar as he was when he left my side and just as able to bear his load of living freight to the place of destination. His diminished size is in me, not in him. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, "There he goes?" there are other eyes watching and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here he comes!"

Love, Ellen and Ron

two friends taken from us too soon.....

life is but a second

although it may feel much longer

through all this pain and darkness

a small candle continues to flicker

a flame burning within your heart

my friends, you were still so young

searching for your dreams

trying to understand your destinies

why you were called home so early

we may never know

tonight i shall burn a candle

to mirror the ones lost

to remind me of your lights

the lights I can no longer see

although I know you're still shining brightly

proudly glistening alongside the Lord

we shall miss you here

and we will always cherish your memories

God puts you on this earth for either a reason, a season or a lifetime. I guess Gibbs was here for a reason and that reason has passed so now he has moved on to a more relaxful and fullfilling way to pass his time. After I initially heard the devastating news, my thoughts and prayers went out to his family and immediate friends. He seemed to have such a tight bond with his friends and I know this is a difficult, difficult time for you all. I have been praying for both the family and friends for strength and courage during this awful time. I am very sorry for your loss.
