Ragan Womack Obituary

WOMACK US Army Air Corp Veteran Ragan M. Womack, 86, was born April 23, 1923 in Ida, LA to Artie and Gertrude Womack, and was called home appropriately on Veterans Day November 11, 2009. Ragan graduated from the University of Florida in 1950 (GO GATORS!). An extraordinary intellect, kind and generous, Ragan tutored and mentored many in reading, math and engineering. Ragan used his self-taught talent in playing the piano to entertain for many, many hours not only his family, but also the residents of Taylor Manor. Ragan touched many lives and all were enriched by his presence. He leaves his memory to the love and light of his life Barbara, who brought into his life four sons whom he loved as his own: Michael (Teresa) Lonberg, Randy (Carolyn) Watson, Jim Lonberg, and Dan Lonberg as well as eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also left behind to share in his memory are nephew and namesake Loren Ragan Simmons and nieces Tina Cooper, Shelby Kelly, Shannon Stripling, and Lesli Owens. Ragan is predeceased by sisters Dorothy Watts and Rose Mary Bass. All his family and many friends mourn his passing. As for me: "I'll be looking at the moon, but I'll be seeing you." A memorial celebration of Ragan's extraordinary life will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 10 am at Ponte Vedra Valley Funeral Home, with interment following at the cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ragan's name to the Honor Air Program of The Rotary Club of Orange Park Sunrise Charities, P.O. Box 65866, Orange Park, FL 32065.
