Shirley Jordan Obituary

Shirley Annette Hodges Jordan, 68, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 18, 2010. Her Home-going Celebration will be conducted on Saturday, January 23, 2010 in the Hobson Auditorium at the First Baptist Church Downtown Jacksonville. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 11 AM, at which time the Celebration Service will begin; the service will be followed by a reception in the Atrium Dining Facility at First Baptist. The service will be officiated by her nephew, Dr. James Peoples. Shirley was born in Jacksonville on October 5, 1941 and had resided there since that time. She was a former member of the Berea Baptist Church where she invited Jesus into her heart as Lord and Savior. Her current membership is at First Baptist Church in downtown Jacksonville. She was a 1959 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. Soon after graduation she was employed by the Prudential Insurance Company. Later she taught preschool at Parkwood Baptist Church and conducted training of preschool teachers for the Southern Baptist Convention; she also directed one of the children's choirs at First Baptist. Shirley was best known for her sweet spirit, her love for the Lord, her undying love for her family, and her unusual spirit of giving. In 1960, Shirley married Stan Jordan; just 12 days following her death they would have celebrated 50 years of marriage. Shirley is predeceased by her father and mother Harmon and Edna Hodges. She is survived by her husband, Stan, two daughters, Rebecca Anne Griffin and Joni Renee Hancock (Mike); brother, Dr. Gene Hodges (Leanne); sister-in-law, Pam Kemp (Jack); grandchildren, Heather Jordan, Joshua Hancock, Nikki Griffin, and Jacob Hancock as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Shirley suffered for many years with many complications of diabetes to include renal failure and heart disease; but Praise God she is now at perfect peace in heaven with her Lord and family who have gone on before. Funeral services are being provided by PEEPLES FAMILY FUNERAL HOMES. JORDAN Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com

Dearest Stan, Gene, Pam and families,

It is amazing that the love and friendship we felt for someone years ago still lives in our hearts and minds today. We are so saddened to hear of Shirley’s passing but know that the Lord she so lovingly served all of her life is holding her in His arms today. We have talked about many of the wonderful times we shared at Berea, on Lake Bedford in the summers, at good old AJ football games and singing together in each others homes and at church. Those are such blessed memories.

Please know that our love and prayers are with you. We have thought about you all so often over the years and will forever hold you in our hearts.

Much Love,
